Zander with his Dyno's

To borrow Judy Garland’s famous line from The Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home.” Just like the characters in the movie, we often leave the comfort of our own homes in search for things such as goods and services that we can ultimately find without ever leaving. We know that Dorothy had a wild, crazy and stressful adventure in the movie but what about Toto? Surely, Toto would have been a lot more comfortable in his own home rather than trekking around Oz with Dorothy and her sidekicks.

More and more companies are making it possible for the “Totos” in the Frisco area to get what they need without ever leaving their neighborhood. From dog walking services to in-home veterinary services, companies are stepping up to ensure that your pet is cared for in ways that are both convenient and affordable.

For retired veterinarian Dr. Jim Joyner, his newest venture just makes sense. After working more than 70 hours a week, most weeks, for about 34 years, he sold his practice and began doing relief work for other veterinarians that needed time off for one reason or another. During his years as a veterinarian, Dr. Joyner realized Frisco had a need for a service that no one was filling. He recently started Home Sweet Home Veterinary House Calls; a company that does just that. “It’s not entirely unique, but no one was doing it here. Many people have animals that don’t travel well. They either get so anxious they’re miserable or they actually get sick in the car on the way. Frisco also has both retirees and young families. Elderly people often can’t or don’t want to load up their animals, while the young families find it hard to load up all the children and the animals and go to the vet.” So, Dr. Joyner traveled to Okla., bought a used ambulance and re-vamped it to accommodate his new business. “It is now equipped with a refrigerator, a lab and a table. I can do 80 percent of what I used to do in my office right there in the truck. The only things I can’t do are x-rays and surgeries.”
